Dear Colleagues and Friends of the English Department at SUNY College at Old Westbury,
As you might know, with our move to the New Academic Building, we lost our Poetry Center in the Academic Village. I am currently working with another professor, Professor Sylvie Kande of the History and Philosophy Department, on a grant proposal to obtain funding and a space for a new Poetry Center. Our new vision for the proposed Poetry Center would not necessarily be a space that is large enough to host events, but rather a safe space to share poetry, meet to discuss events, and act as a home-base for many of our poetry centered organizations and events including the Poetry Club, and Harmonia, the Creative Writing Journal at Old Westbury.
We need your help to make this happen. We are looking for testimonials from both students and faculty who hosted or participated in events or otherwise used the Poetry Center space in Academic Village. I know that many of us are very busy, especially at the midway point of the semester. Your testimonial can be as short as a sentence or two, or as long as you’d like. Please share with us any memories, past experiences, friendships formed, events witnessed, or inspiring moments that you had at the Poetry Center. Also feel free to share why you think we need to reestablish a space for poetry at SUNY Old Westbury. I am asking for all testimonials to be returned to me at williamsJL@oldwestbury.edu as soon as possible, but no later than November 15th.
Thank you so much in advance for considering writing a testimonial in support of a new space for poetry at Old Westbury. Hopefully, with your help, we can resurrect the Poetry Center!
Feel free to contact me with any questions you might have.
